that question

The other night, my dad brought up this question:
"So, Trinka*. What if someone came up to you and asked you how to get saved? What would you tell them?"
I hemmed and hawed for a bit before giving him my answer...
But, really. What if someone came up to you with that question? What would you say? Would you be able to whip out your Bible, and lead them to Christ on the spot**?

Many of us Christians really don't know what we'd do in that situation! But last Sunday, because we had a few visitors, my dad quickly went over what you had to do to be saved. He had us turn to 1 Corinthians 15 and we read a short passage from there.
Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. ~1 Corinthians 15: 1-4

This shows the basics of what you need to be saved!
  1. You need to believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins
  2. You need to believe that He was buried
  3. And that on the third day, He was raised from the dead
So the next time someone asks you this, you'll know exactly what to say. And remember, the Holy Spirit will be with you, guiding your words! Isn't that awesome?

*of course he used my real name :)
**I'm not saying that will happen. We're simply a vessel for the Holy Spirit to speak through us. Also, where as the person might not accept Jesus right then, maybe you'll have planted a seed! :)

  4. Thanks for sharing! In the moment, it can be hard to know exactly what to say. It's a good idea to have the basics in our minds so we can be prepared if we have an opportunity to talk with someone about the Gospel. =)
