Disrespect

disrespect
{via}
This is a really good article too.^

You know those days that you just feel...irritable? Well, this week, that's pretty much all I was feeling :P It didn't help that my mom was very stressed out, therefore yelling at everybody  almost everyone. {She was nice to the the random person who called and had the wrong number.} But, as I said, she was really stressed {okay, still is}, so, now I understand. But umm, that's not what this post is about.
See, I was raised to never yell at an adult. Also to never be disrespectful or smart-Alec-ish* {not to say that I never do that. :P}
So, this week, when I got a lashing out for doing whatever, I would just stand silently and say "Yes." or "No." at the correct moments.
But, oh boy, when I got back to my room, I would whisper every little comment I wished I could have said to her. I know, immature, right?
Thursday night as I was lying in bed, going over everything my mom had said that day, a voice came into my head. "Honor your Father and Mother."
"But, Lord! I wasn't being disrespectful! I didn't say anything mean or even role my eyes!"
                                                        ...............
                                                            .......
                                                              ...
                                                            "Oh."
                                             "I guess I was a little disrespectful."
Yeah, try a lot. Even though I didn't say anything in my mom's hearing, I was disrespecting her. And doing that just made seem lower and lower to me.  *wince*

        “Honor your father and mother, as the LORD your God commanded you. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God is giving you." -Deuteronomy 5:16

The Lord was pretty clear with this. In fact he said something along those^lines a couple times in the Scriptures.
Which means...He really wants to get that through my thick skull. I'm working on it. I'm working on it with the Lord's help.
Have any of you ever had that problem?
So let's all work on it, respect our parents, they've raised us, and they deserve the respect!
Report back to me in a month with your results. ;)
*To all people named Alec, I'm sorry for you...

  1. That is so true... Thanks for sharing this, Trinka. That is a wonderful thing to work on... :) The first step is realizing you need to work on it. :D I am sure I need to as well; I accept the challenge!!! :)

  2. This is such an important issue today. There is simply NO respect between most parents and their kids nowadays. Respect has to go both ways, but even when your parents treat you difficultly, God is clear that it is crucial for us teens and kids to respect them. (Lol, I do that thing you said about going to your room and voicing your opinions, too. :P Oops.)

  3. I'm probably going to have to say "ouch" to this. This post hit straight to the point...but in a good way. Respecting my parents is quite a challenge to me. Well, I have a "rebellious streak" in me, and sometimes I find it hard to respect and obey my parents--which is contrary to God's Word. This is something I'll have to work on, too.

    1. *Sigh* It's something I have to be constantly working on. :P And my age? Well, I'm freaky about that... I won't let anyone know how old I am, even if I know they're nice :) So I'll just say that I'm somewhere in my teen years! :)

  5. Guess we all struggle with that. I'm usually not straight out disrespectful but I'll be sarcastic or sometimes I just think a whole rampage of things. I need a lot of molding and reshaping
