of yeast and making a difference

You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? 8That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. 9 “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty. ~Galatians 5:7-10 {NIV}

I don't know about you guys, but I really like the books that Paul authored {though of course God gave him the words} :) They are so filled with practical wisdom that I can't help but understand!
                                                                           *ahem*
                                                                       ...Anyway
All through the Bible, yeast is used as an example of "sin" {that's one reason the Jews made only unleavened bread in the Old Testament}
So, have you ever considered that those seemingly "little" things you do can make a big difference?
Like, for example, You tell your mom one leeeeetle lie...it's not going to make much difference, right? {wrong!} Or even something that isn't inherently wrong but something you know will lead to sin, even something as simple as sitting next to a {*ahem* very handsome} guy in youth group. ;)
Though, the same thing goes for good things :)
Like, holding open the door for that elderly couple at the grocery store...or smiling at that new girl...or {and I can attest to this, seriously, it used to make my entire day} smiling at little girls when you catch them looking at you :)
Those little things can make a HUGE difference! Just like a little bit of yeast can leaven an entire loaf of bread, just a little bit of sin can turn you away from God, and in the same way, one little nice thing can make someone else's day! :)

PS: Happy Leap Day everyone! {do something awesome!}

i love...

The fact that I won't have to be scrounging around for one last paragraph to meet the length requirements for my research paper like last year. :) Now my only problem is making it short enough...it's harder than you would think!
{Umm, seriously. I'm only allowed 10 paragraphs max}

A rather typical post for this particular day :)

How would you describe love?
As that fluttery feeling you get in your stomach when your crush looks at you?
Your first kiss?
That feeling you get when meet the right person?

I don't know when it happened, but at some point in time, I started thinking of love...diferently. It no longer meant those things: kisses, chocolates and fluttery feelings. I started thinking of it as a choice, as an action.
And, well, it is!
God commands us to love.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” ~Mark 12:30-31

We can't really just turn on and off feelings by choice. And I'm pretty sure God wouldn't tell us: "Yeah, just go fall in love with that random person over there. Oh, and that girl over there with her nose up in the air? Act as if she's your new best friend."
This love, we've got to live it. Some days, we'll just wake up and not want to love anyone.
But we've got to make this decision. Start loving people.
I admit, this is one of my biggest problems. When I wake up in the morning, I don't usually go: "Oh, I think I'll love my family today.*" It's something that's gotta be worked on, meditated on {no, not some freaky meditation practice, but meditating in God's word}.
One book that really helps me with that is 1 Corinthians. There is a bunch in there about love, and not just in chapter 13 ;)

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.~1 Corinthians 13:1-3
So, without love, we're...nothing. Even if we are super important, or we have the "best" {this chapter goes on to say that really, love is the best gift} spiritual gifts, if we don't have love, we are nothing.
Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.~ 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
So, whadda ya' say? Let's start loving on people. Not the mushy love for which Valentines day is famous, but let's love in the way that's obedient to God! {If there is a particularly...difficult...person whom you just don't think you'll be able to love, pray for them. Just keep on praying for them. I've begun to realize that when I'm praying for a person, I learn to love them.}
Okay, so I meant to publish this a few days ago, but I just didn't get it finished in time. But I guess this is a great day to post it! :)

Happy Valentine's Day!
*in fact, they are usually, "Grmblghruod...breakfast...grmklblmagrondla..."

that question

The other night, my dad brought up this question:
"So, Trinka*. What if someone came up to you and asked you how to get saved? What would you tell them?"
I hemmed and hawed for a bit before giving him my answer...
But, really. What if someone came up to you with that question? What would you say? Would you be able to whip out your Bible, and lead them to Christ on the spot**?

Many of us Christians really don't know what we'd do in that situation! But last Sunday, because we had a few visitors, my dad quickly went over what you had to do to be saved. He had us turn to 1 Corinthians 15 and we read a short passage from there.
Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. ~1 Corinthians 15: 1-4

This shows the basics of what you need to be saved!
  1. You need to believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins
  2. You need to believe that He was buried
  3. And that on the third day, He was raised from the dead
So the next time someone asks you this, you'll know exactly what to say. And remember, the Holy Spirit will be with you, guiding your words! Isn't that awesome?

*of course he used my real name :)
**I'm not saying that will happen. We're simply a vessel for the Holy Spirit to speak through us. Also, where as the person might not accept Jesus right then, maybe you'll have planted a seed! :)

italics and bold

Okay, so Memory and Emma Margaret asked me how to do italics and bold in comments on Blogger!
It's actually a lot more simple than I thought it would be!
So, here's an example:
Amelia Earhart used to eat purple, chocolate covered clowns.
And now you want to emphasize some of those words!
So, for the italics, you do this:
chocolate covered

And for the bold you do this:
used

If you want to do both italics and bold, you do this
clowns

All together, your comment {before you submit it} will look like this:
Amelia Earhart used to eat purple, chocolate covered clowns.

So, did that make sense? I hope it helped! :)
